Solo Show at UC Clermont College

Everyone mark your calendars, I have just been chosen for a solo show in August. Not this August, but August of 2008. You have plenty of time to plan for this show.
So I hope to have a pile of new paintings for this one. I am not sure what they will be, but I am thinking they will be larger and more figurative. I will remind you again of the show in 12 or 13 months. I will offer more details later of the when, where and how.

Reserve Your Seat for the 2007 Best of the Bottoms Art Show and Auction

This is a painting I did for last years show and auction.

I submitted some paintings that I did in the Valley View Preserve in Milford, Ohio. This is a wonderful piece of land that a group in the Milford area have been spending a lot of time saving from development. Every time I go there I have a major wildlife moment with deer running by and all number of birds flying past. One of my paintings won an honorable mention again this year and two of the works will be in the live auction. The event is a fund raiser for the Valley View Foundation. It is a great way to help out a fine organization and possibly get some paintings for good prices.

The second annual Best of The Bottoms Art Competition and Sale event will be held on June 15, 2007 (6-9pm) at the Krippendorf Lodge located at the Cincinnati Nature Center. Our guests will have drinks and Hors d’Oeuvres while enjoying the on-going silent auction and live auction beginning at 7:30pm.
The show and auction is open to the public. Tickets are $50 per person and all proceeds benefit the Valley View Foundation. The evening will feature artwork created on the Valley View property, music, drinks and light appetizers. Many of the artists who participate in the show will also be in attendance. Summer Painting Class

PLEIN-AIR LANDSCAPE PAINTING
Plein-Air is a French expression which means “in the open air.” Experience the pleasure of painting, of self-expression, and of seeing the world in a new way as you meet at various locations and scenic parks around Cincinnati to learn to sketch and to paint with oils. Drawing on the ideas of impressionism, you will practice the techniques needed to complete painted sketches, including basic composition, value, pattern, color spotting, and covering the canvas. Then, building on those skills, you will complete a larger fully realized landscape painting that will capture the impression of light and color of the Cincinnati landscape. In case of rain, we will arrange to meet indoors or in parks with overhead cover. Details and directions to the various locations will be given in class. No experience necessary. Richard Luschek studied classical painting under Boston painter Paul Ingbretson for three years after earning his BFA degree with UC’s DAAP program. In addition to working as an artist and maintaining his own art studio, he has taught with the Art Academy of Cincinnati and he also teaches classes privately in his studio.

Manifest Show

This little painting of stuff I recently cleaned out of my parents attic was juried into a show at a Manifest Gallery. While it is my baseball, I think the truck is my brother's. I took everything that I thought would make good still life junk. The painting is pretty small at 4x6.

3rd Annual Magnitude Seven Exhibit of Small Art Works [Opening Friday 8 June @ 6-10 PM]: Juried, 50 small works by 30 artists from 14 states & the UK. Works in a wide variety of media including sculpture, fibers, printmaking, photography, painting, drawing, mixed media, & collage. Small works are very portable & fit well into many spaces. They evoke a sense of one's own physicality, in a completely different way than larger works. Small works are intimate; inviting approach & inspection. Like short poetry, they are a challenge to craft with the same presence of their larger counterparts. The exhibit consists of works no larger than 7 inches in any dimension. On The Radio

Last week I went down to WGUC to record a spot with Brian O'Donnell about the Spring Grove Show. It will be aired occasionally on the Spotlight on WGUC.

The full interview will air on Around Cincinnati, Sunday, July 15th, sometime between 7-8pm on 91.7 WVXU.
It went OK, though afterwards I wished I had said some things differently. Listen and let me know what you think.

A Taste of Mariemont

This past Sunday I painted all day in Mariemont. I first set up at the Barn on Cambridge Ave. This is the old barn where I am looking to open a teaching studio for drawing and painting. The plan is to rent the second floor from the Women's Art Club who just purchased the building and are about the restore and make an art center out of the entire complex. I am excited about the space, as it is a large loft that will have large north facing skylights. People interested in traditional training will get a space in the studio to work in and progress through the program of cast drawing, figure drawing, and painting. While not fully involved in the early stages of the studio, Carl Samson will eventually be offering portrait and other painting workshops in the space.
I hope to have Clem Robins teaching anatomy classes, and Carolyn Manto teaching figurative sculpture.
In addition to the full time program there will be weekend and night classes covering similar topics of traditional methods.

I then went over to the concourse to the Taste of Mariemont. I ate a bit too much food and then set up to paint the valley through the stone arbor. It is hard enough to paint when you are alone, but to do so in a crowd is quite frustrating. I ended up wiping the canvas down at the end, but I met a lot of nice people over there. One kid came up and asked me if it was free to paint. I think he thought it was an event like the sack race or the bean bag toss. I said it was free, and he quickly asked if he could paint after me. He seemed put out that I was going to hog the easel the whole time. I really should have just let him paint, I wasn't doing so well anyway.

Spring Grove Art show

I am in a show at Spring Grove Cemetery. I have a good proportion of work in the show with 11 pieces. Everything has been painted somewhere in the Cemetery over the past 3 years, with some of it being wet when I dropped it off. The paintings are on view in the historic offices just on the right side as you drive in the entrance. It will be on view through September.
There is also an outdoor sculpture show in the courtyard.
